MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College trailed
by a game-high 17 points in the first half before coming within
just two points in the second half, but Dominican University was
able to come away with a 75-63 victory over the Warriors on
Saturday afternoon at the Recreation Complex.
The Warriors scored the first basket of the game, however they
trailed the rest of the first half. The Stars started the game
shooting 85.7 percent and were ahead by as many as 17 points with
9:12 remaining in the half, taking a 44-33 lead into halftime.
Wisconsin Lutheran held strong as Dominican's shooting cooled off
to trim the Stars lead to 11.
The Stars finished the half shooting 60.7 percent (17-for-28)
compared to 54.5 percent (12-for-22) for the Warriors. WLC
committed eight turnovers compared to 10 for Dominican. However,
the Stars capitalized the most scoring 17 points off turnovers to
nine for the Warriors. Wisconsin Lutheran was led in the first half
by Jeremy Murphy's (Chicago, Ill./Clemente) 10 points. Dominican
out-rebounded WLC 14-7.
Dominican shot almost half as well as it did in the first half,
however, the same went for Wisconsin Lutheran. WLC trimmed the
Stars' lead to just two points, 57-55, with 5:57 remaining in the
game. However, Dominican closed out the game 12-for-15 from the
field, including three three-pointers in the final six minutes.
Wisconsin Lutheran shot 33.3 percent (11-for-33) in the second half
compared to 36 percent (9-for-25) for the Stars. For the game,
Dominican shot 49.1 percent (26-for-53) while the Warriors shot
41.8 percent (23-for-55).
Alex Merbach (Kaukauna, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) led Wisconsin
Lutheran with 14 points and nine rebounds. DJ Cupertino (Wauwatosa,
Wis./East) added 12 points and Murphy finished the game with
11.
Milos Mandic led three Stars (7-10, 4-5 NAC) in double digits
with 15 points and eight rebounds. Marquis Turley added 14 points
while Jovan Turley added 13. Dominican out-rebounded WLC 34-30.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-13, 2-6 NAC) remains home at the
Recreation Complex to take on the NAC North-leading Concordia
University Wisconsin Falcons (15-2, 11-0 NAC) on Wednesday at 7
p.m.
