MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's soccer team won its second straight Northern Athletics
Conference game with a 3-1 win over Maranatha Baptist Bible College
on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.
The Warriors and Crusaders (4-7, 1-7 NAC) played to a 1-1 tie in
the game's opening half as the Crusaders struck first at the 21:32
mark when Karis Rogers beat the keeper giving Maranatha a 1-0
edge.
Wisconsin Lutheran would answer less than four minutes later
when freshman Heather Nielsen (Wildwood, Fla./Villages) tallied her
first career collegiate goal to knot the score at one apiece.
The Warriors held an edge in the opening half as they attempted
10 shots compared to the Crusaders six shots.
After 15 minutes of scoreless play to open the second half,
freshman Megume Poetter (Federal Way, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran)
notched her first-career score, the game-winner at the 60:13 mark
to give the forest green and white a 2-1 edge. Freshman Sarah
Kolander (Brookfield, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added an assist on
the play.
Sophomore Niki DiSalvo (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) provided some
insurance for WLC when she scored 3:31 later to put the Warriors on
top by two scores. Kolander recorded her second assist of the game
on the play, while junior Aubrey Breuckman (Burlington,
Wis./Burlington) also assisted on the goal.
The Warriors out-shot Maranatha 22-14 for the game and had a
12-8 edge in the second half. DiSalvo led the forest green and
white with eight shots, while Rogers had six shots for the
Crusaders.
Freshman Sarah Luebke (Kaukauna, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) made
eight saves for WLC, including some key saves down the stretch to
preserve the lead. Ginny Martin also tallied eight saves for
Maranatha.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-11, 2-5 NAC) returns to its home pitch on
Wednesday when it hosts Benedictine University (5-6-1, 4-4 NAC) in
a NAC matchup. Game time at Warrior Field is set to begin at 7
p.m.
