SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Lakeland College shot nearly
60 percent from three-point range and had six players reach double
figures as the host Muskies defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College
96-60 on Tuesday night at the Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Warriors began the game by grabbing an early 14-5 lead at
the 15 minute mark. Lakeland countered with a 13-0 run and took the
lead, 18-14, with 10:50 remaining in the first half. After trading
baskets, the Muskies held a slim lead, 28-25, before they finished
the final five minutes of the first half on a 14-3 run to take a
14-point lead, 42-28, into halftime.
The Warriors hit just 10 of 35 (28.6 percent) shot attempts in
the first half, while the Muskies went 15 of 29 (51.7 percent) from
the field. Tim Demuth (Franksville, Wis./Racine Lutheran) scored 15
of his game-high 17 points in the first half. LC's Stan McKenzie
scored a team-high 11 points in the first half.
Lakeland continued its sharp shooting and improved in the second
half hitting 63.3 percent (19-for-30) of its shots. With 16:32
remaining in the half, the Muskies went on a 16-6 run to push their
lead to 30 points, 72-42. The lead hovered around 30 until they led
by a game-high 43 points, 95-52, with 1:13 to play. WLC shot 34.2
percent (13-for-38) in the second half.
Demuth was the only Warrior to reach double figures on the
night, scoring 17 points. Andy Thusius (Kenosha, Wis./Shoreland
Lutheran) pulled down a game-high seven rebounds for WLC, which was
out-rebounded by a narrow 36-35 margin.
The Muskies (15-9, 10-6 NAC) had six players reach double
figures. Tal Diekvoss, Jack Ridgway and McKenzie poured in 15
points each. Josh Regal and James Oshkeshequoam finished with 14
points, while Justin Ward added 11. Regal also dished out nine
assists. McKenzie and Oshkeshequoam helped the Muskies bench
outscore WLC, 37-20. Lakeland shot 57.6 percent (34-for-59) for the
game, including 57.9 percent (11-for-19) from beyond the arc.
Wisconsin Lutheran (4-19, 3-12 NAC) travels to Watertown, Wis.,
on Thursday to battle the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders
(7-16, 2-13 NAC) for the eighth and final spot in the 2011 NAC
Tournament. The game tips-off at 5:30 p.m.
