Warriors suffer season-ending loss to Falcons in NAC Tournament

MEQUON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team suffered a 90-58 loss to the top-seeded and 21st-ranked Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons in a Northern Athletics Conference Tournament Quarterfinal on Wednesday night at R. John Buuck Field House.

The Falcons opened the game on a 21-4 run over the opening seven minutes to take control. The Warriors cut the lead down to 15 points, 27-12, with 9:14 remaining in the opening half. CUW closed out the half on a 21-7 run to take a 48-19 lead into halftime.

The Falcons shot 64.5 percent (20-for-31) including 7-for-12 from beyond the arc, while the Warriors shot just 25.7 percent (9-for-35) including 0-for-12 from three-point range. Russell Strutz (Sturtevant, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) led the Warriors with five points in the first half. Mitchell Schneider and Luke Doedens each scored 13 points for CUW.

The second half started much like the first with CUW going on a 17-2 run. The Falcons came out fast again and built a game-high 44-point lead with 15:48 remaining in the game. The Warriors closed to within 29 after a three-pointer by DJ Cupertino (Wauwatosa, Wis./East) with 3:01 remaining, but would get no closer.

Concordia Wisconsin shot 54.5 percent (18-for-33) in the second half, compared to 30.8 percent (12-for-39) for WLC. Junior guard Jeremy Murphy (Chicago, Ill./Clemente) led the Warriors with 16 points. For the game Wisconsin Lutheran shot 28.4 percent (21-for-74), compared to 59.4 percent (38-for-64) for the Falcons. WLC shot 3-for-17 from beyond to arc compared to 9-for-21 from CUW.

Concordia Wisconsin (23-3, 16-0 NAC) had four players reach double figures for the game.
Schneider finished with a game-high 18 points. Edward Newton-Kemp and Doedens added 15 and 13 points, respectively. Cory Stark was the fourth with 10 points.

Wisconsin Lutheran concludes its 2010-11 season with a 5-21 overall record and a 4-12 mark in the NAC.
