NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College men's track & field team finished seventh out of nine
teams on Saturday at the Northern Athletics Conference Indoor
Championships on the Al B. Carius Track at North Central
College.
Malachi Wallander (Menasha, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) competed
in the pole vault and finished in sixth place with a height of 3.49
meters, earning the Warriors three of their six points on the day.
Matt Waech, from MSOE, won with a height of 3.94 meters. Wallander
also raced in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 25.97.
The winning time of 22.27 came from Merrell Davis of Concordia
Chicago.
Nick Biancuzzo (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran)
crossed the tape in a time of 2:08.20 in the 800 meter run, placing
12th of 19 runners. Andy Ashenden from CUW won the event with a
time of 2:00.55.
In the 3,000 meter run, Chris Martin (Grapevine,
Texas/Christian) came across the line in a time of 10:33.91. Sean
Gogerty (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) also competed in the event
and finished with a time of 11:00.05. CUW's Ashenden won his second
event of the day with a time of 9:49.49.
Wisconsin Lutheran also competed in the distance medley relay
and finished with a time of 12:20.65. The 4x400-meter relay team
finished in a time of 3:52.70.
The Warriors concluded the championships with six points for
seventh place. MSOE was crowned team champion after totaling 143
points.
WLC returns to competition next Friday, March 4 at the Gill Last
Chance Meet at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
