MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's track & field team opened its 2011 outdoor track &
field season Saturday at the Rhodes College Open Meet at Fargason
Field.
Freshman Travis Townsend (Milwaukee, Wis./Menomonee Falls) ran
the 200-meter dash in 23.67 seconds. Townsend also ran the
100-meter dash finishing in 12.15. Freshman teammate Nick Biancuzzo
(Menomonee Falls, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran) competed in the 800
meters and finished with a time of 2:06.97.
Seniors Chris Martin (Grapevine, Texas/Christian) and Blake
Miller (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) competed in the mile
run crossing the finish line with times of 4:57.59 and 5:13.35,
respectively. Senior Sean Gogerty (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka)
competed in the 5000 meters and tallied a time of 18:46.92.
Freshman Malachi Wallander (Menasha, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran)
competed for the Warriors in the pole vault and javelin throw. He
cleared a height of 3.50 meters on the pole vault and threw the
javelin 32.68 meters. WLC also competed in the 4x400-meter relay
finishing in a time of 3:57.78. Relay members were Gogerty, Martin,
Biancuzzo, and Miller. Team scores were not kept at the event.
WLC continues its outdoor season Saturday, March 26 when it
travels to Hanover, Ind., for the Hanover College Invitational.
