LISLE, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's track & field team recorded six season best marks on its
way to placing seventh at the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference
Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at the Village of
Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.
Freshman Nick Biancuzzo (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Milwaukee
Lutheran) placed fourth of 18 in the 800-meter run with a
personal-best time of 1:59.70 to earn his team five points in the
event. Fellow freshman Nathan Boerneke (Fox Lake, Wis.,/Winnebago
Lutheran) was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles also with a
personal-best time of 16.78.
Seniors Chris Martin (Grapevine, Texas/Christian) and Sean
Gogerty (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) both ran all-time personal
bests in their final 5,000-meter run of their careers for the
Warriors. Martin finished in 17:51.57, while Gogerty was right
behind at 17:56.95.
Freshman Malachi Wallander (Menasha, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran)
cleared a season-best height of 3.66 meters in the pole vault to
finish sixth of 11 in the event.
WLC's 4x400-meter relay team of Biancuzzo, Boerneke, Wallander
and Blake Miller (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) shattered
their previous best time of the season (3:42.14) after finishing
fifth in the event with a time of 3:35.11.
The Warriors totaled 16 points over the two-day championships to
finish seventh of eight teams. Milwaukee School of Engineering
topped the field with 176.50 points to win the team title.
Wisconsin Lutheran returns to action May 12-13 at the Dr. Keeler
Invitational hosted by North Central College in Naperville,
Ill.
