MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team fell to Edgewood College Tuesday night 3-0 at Breese Stevens Field in Madison. The match was the conference opener for both squads.

Edgewood (3-0, 1-0 NAC), which is ranked seventh in the latest NSCAA Central Regional Rankings, netted all three of its goals within the first 18:51 of play to build an early lead in the contest.

Warriors sophomore goalkeeper Mel Lemke (Brookfield, Wis./Central) made 13 saves in the match as WLC was outshot 28-1. Lemke made nine saves in the opening half and stopped all four shots she saw in the final 45 minutes.

The Eagles' Elaine Gerry scored the first two goals of the game, her eighth and ninth of the season, to give Edgewood a 2-0 lead.

Gerry's first goal, assisted by Ashley Alonso, was scored 8:01 into play, putting the Warriors in an early 1-0 hole.

Gerry then found the back of the net again with 14:42 on the clock off assists from Emily Berns and Molly Haertle to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage. Berns tacked on the final goal to make the final margin 3-0.

From there the Warriors played the Eagles even as both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the contest.

The only WLC shot attempt of the game came off the foot of sophomore Maggie Smith (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn).

Wisconsin Lutheran (0-2, 0-1 NAC) will return to the pitch on Friday when it travels to Mankato, Minn., to face Bethany Lutheran College. Game time at BLC Soccer Field is set for 7 p.m.
