WHITEWATER, Wis. - Freshman Travis Turnquist
(Madison, Wis./East) broke two school records Saturday as the
Wisconsin Lutheran College men's track & field team competed at
the Wis.-Whitewater Rocky Rococo Invitational inside the Kachel
Fieldhouse.
In the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash, Turnquist's time of
7.10 placed him fourth out of 63 competitors in the event. The top
eight times then moved onto the final heat. Turnquist followed with
a third-place finish in the finals of the 60-meter dash with his
time of 7.03. Marques Johnson of the Greater Milwaukee Track Club
won the event with a time of 6.99, tying a facility record.
Turnquist later turned in a third-place finish out of 32
competitors in the 200-meter dash with a school-record time of
22.88. He broke the previous school record of 23.61 held by both
Aaron Wiechmann and Josh Stodola. Wis.-Whitewater's Nick Bee won
the event with his time of 22.55.
Sophomore Tommy Jones (Delavan, Wis./Delavan-Darien) placed 13th
out of 31 competitors in the 3000-meter run with a personal-best
time of 10:08.13. Matt Kruger of the Greater Milwaukee Track Club
was the top finisher in the event with his time of 9:15.58.
After winning his heat of the mile run, sophomore Nick Biancuzzo
(Menomonee Falls, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran) finished 13th out of 24
competitors in the event with a time of 5:00.06. Wis.-Whitewater's
Dawson Miller won the event with a time of 4:30.28.
The Warriors finished with 12 points in the final team rankings.
Invite host Wis.-Whitewater topped the 13-team scoring field with
234 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran returns to action next Friday, January 27 for
the Carthage Tadd Metzger Invitational in Kenosha, Wis. Events are
scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m. inside the Tarble Athletic
and Recreation Center.
