MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's soccer team was defeated by Northern Athletics Conference
rival Concordia Wisconsin 5-1 Wednesday afternoon in its final game
of the 2012 season at Warrior Field.
The visiting Falcons, who are the third seed in the upcoming NAC
Tournament, scored four times in the first 29 minutes of the first
half to take the early advantage. Lauren Straehler, Carley
Pfannerstill, Brittany Klumpp, and Anna Hirssig recorded the
Falcons scores. Sophomore Sarah Kolander (Brookfield,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) erased the shutout at the 41:39 mark when
she booted a free kick past the out-stretched arms of the CUW
goalkeeper for her second goal of the season. WLC trailed 4-1
heading into intermission as goalkeeper Kate Gucinski (Appleton,
Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) made three first-half saves.
CUW netted its final goal of the game at the 52:53 mark of the
second half from its fifth different player, Emily Ciesielczyk. The
remainder of regulation was played scoreless and the final score
read 5-1.
Freshman Katie Bentz (Cambridge, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) and
sophomore Sarah Luebke (Kaukauna, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) added
second-half shots for the Warriors, who finished with three for the
game. Gucinski stopped seven shots in the second half to finish
with 10 saves for the game.
Straehler finished with seven shots to lead the Falcons (14-4-0,
10-2-0 NAC), while Samantha Anacker earned the win in net after
playing 78:27 of the 90 minutes.
Wisconsin Lutheran finishes its 2012 season with an overall
record of 8-8-3 and a 5-6-1 mark in the NAC. The eight wins overall
are the most since 2002 (nine), while the five conference wins are
the highest total since 2001 (eight).
