Box Score Box score

MEQUON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College football team erased a 10-point deficit in the second half, but Concordia Wisconsin scored the go-ahead touchdown with just over three minutes left as the Falcons won the Lutheran Bowl 17-14 Saturday at Tomasini Stadium.

The game saw no scoring through the opening quarter, and remained that way five minutes into the second quarter. David Gonzalez connected on a 41-yard field goal to give CUW a 3-0 lead with 10:12 left in the first half. Just over one minute later, Ben Kempen scooped up a fumble and returned it 22 yards to the end zone and the Warriors trailed 10-0. That score stood until halftime.

The Warriors were able to cut into the Falcons lead at the 9:06 mark of the third quarter when Zach Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) found Josh Stodola (Denmark, Wis./Denmark) for a 64-yard touchdown. The touchdown reception was Stodola's school-record 11th of the season.

Five minutes into the final quarter, Donavin Tucker (Brookfield, Wis./East) gave WLC its first lead of the game after he rushed to the end zone from six yards out. WLC stopped CUW on its next possession, but then was forced to punt after going three-and-out.

Garrett Wenzelburger put Concordia Wisconsin back in front 17-14 with 3:08 left after he caught an 18-yard touchdown from Austin Damaschke to finish off a three-play, 42-yard drive. That score would hold as the final as the Warriors were unable to mount a comeback despite driving down as far as the CUW 37-yard line.

Shaw finished 18-for-36 with 164 yards with one touchdown. Stodola led all receivers with 10 catches for 134 yards and a touchdown. Eric Zeitler (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led the Warriors defense with 10 tackles. CUW narrowly outgained WLC 246-226 as both teams ran 64 offensive plays.

Damaschke was 24-for-29 for 204 yards with a touchdown offensively for Concordia Wisconsin (7-3, 6-1 NAC). Wenzelburger caught five passes for 47 yards and a score. Anthony Hoitink led all players with 11 tackles.

The Warriors finish their 2012 season 7-3 overall and 5-2 for third place in the Northern Athletics Conference. The seven wins set a program record for wins in a season.
