MILWAUKEE - Senior Tim Demuth (Franksville,
Wis./Racine Lutheran) scored a game-high 18 points to lead three
players in double figures as the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's
basketball team won its home opener over North Park 67-52 Tuesday
night at the Recreation Complex.
The Warriors scored first and trailed just once in the first
half before leading by a first-half high 13 points at the 9:29 mark
of the first half. North Park cut its deficit to as close as six
points, but WLC maintained a lead of nine points, 34-25, at the
halftime break.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which shot 44.4 percent (12-for-27) in the
first half, outscored the Vikings 14-0 in second-chance points in
the period. Demuth netted 12 points to pace all first-half scorers.
North Park shot 47.8 percent (11-for-23) in the opening stanza.
WLC opened the second half on a scoreless drought for nearly six
and a half minutes, but managed to build a 10-point lead, 39-29,
with 12:44 remaining. The Vikings responded with a 12-2 run to knot
the score at 41-41 at the 8:03 mark. The Warriors answered
quickly,. however, by scoring 18 straight points to lead by a
game-high 18, 59-41, with just 2:14 left on the clock. The Warriors
maintained a double-digit lead through the final buzzer.
The Warriors improved their shooting in the second half by
firing on 45.5 percent (10-for-22) of their shots as their bench
outscored NPU 20-8.
Demuth led all players with 18 points, while senior Nate Bauer
(Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and sophomore Kyle Stelse
(Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) added 12 and 10 points,
respectively. Sophomore Brett Lubbe (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith
Lutheran) grabbed a team-best nine rebounds. The Warriors shot 44.9
percent (22-for-49) for the game and dominated the glass by
outrebounding the Vikings 37-20.
Mark Holmes tallied a double-double with 14 points and 11
rebounds to lead North Park (1-2). Zach Cassita added 10 points as
the Vikings shot 48.9 percent (22-for-45) from the floor.
Wisconsin Lutheran (1-2) will next host Bethany Lutheran (0-2)
Saturday in a 2 p.m. non-conference game at the Recreation Complex.
