MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team dropped a non-conference game against
second-ranked NAIA opponent Cardinal Stritch 74-48 Thursday at
Panella Court.
Cardinal Stritch controlled the game for most of the first half,
pushing its lead to 13 points with nine minutes remaining. The
Warriors cut into that lead after freshmen Randy Strutz
(Sturtevant, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and Nate Siemers (Nicollet,
Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) hit back-to-back baskets to cut
their deficit to 24-23 with 4:33 left in the half.
Stritch was able to regain control, closing out the half on an
8-2 run and went into halftime with a 32-26 advantage.
Senior Tim Demuth (Franksville, Wis./Racine Lutheran) led the
Warriors offensively with six points and two assists in the first
half. Senior Nate Bauer (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) added
five points and three rebounds. Strutz and Julion Griffin
(Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) each contributed four
points.
CSU extended its lead in the second half as it went on an 11-0
run before the midway point to lead by 20 points. The Wolves
maintained their lead for the remainder of the game to earn the
74-48 victory.
Demuth finished with a team-high 11 points. Bauer scored seven
with three rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Sophomore Kyle
Stelse (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) added six points off the
bench while pulling down a team-high eight rebounds. The Warriors
shot 32.1 percent for the game on 18-of-56 shooting.
Derek Semenas finished with a game-high 17 points for Cardinal
Stritch (9-0). Darren Moore added nine points and nine rebounds.
Cardinal Stritch shot 49.1 percent on 27-of-55 shooting.
The Warriors (1-5, 0-1 NAC) will return to Northern Athletics
Conference play Saturday when they travel across town to the Kern
Center to take on MSOE (3-2, 1-0 NAC). Tip-off is scheduled for
