Box score

KENOSHA, Wis. - Wisconsin Lutheran College freshman Travis Turnquist (Madison, Wis./East) set a Northern Athletics Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships record in the 400-meter dash on Saturday afternoon at Carthage's Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center.

Turnquist ran the 400-meter dash in a school- and conference championships-record time of 50.01 seconds, which beat the previous time set by Brian Seniuk who ran a 50.36 at the 2008 NAC Indoor Championships.

The freshman also had solid performances in both the 200- and 55-meter dash as he placed second and fourth in those races, respectively. Turnquist finished the 200-meter dash in 22.70 seconds and crossed the finish line in the 55-meter dash in 6.69 seconds. His preliminary time of 6.55 seconds in the 55-meter dash was also a school record. He scored 23 of the Warriors' 44 points on the day.

For his efforts, Turnquist was named the Freshman of the Meet. Edgewood's Grant Mickesh took home Track Athlete of the Meet honors, while Eric Capshaw of Aurora was named the Field Athlete of the Meet. Concordia Wisconsin's Russ DeLap was named Coach of the Meet.

Sophomore Nick Biancuzzo (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran) also turned in a quality performance on Saturday as he recorded top-four finishes in the 800-meter and one mile run. Biancuzzo placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:00.81 and was fourth in the mile clocking in at 4:33.15.

Others scoring points for the Warriors at the championships were Nathan Boerneke (Fox Lake, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) tying for fifth in the 55-meter hurdles, Mike Reeves (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) placing sixth in the 55-meter dash and Malachi Wallander (Menasha, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) who tied for eighth in the pole vault.

The Warriors also received top-eight finishes in the distance medley relay and the 4x400-meter relay. WLC finished with 44 team points for seventh place in the final standings. Concordia Wisconsin won the championship with 126 points.

Wisconsin Lutheran resumes indoor competition next Friday, March 2 when it competes at the Carthage Gill Athletics Final Qualifier. Events are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis.
