MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's and women's track & field teams opened their 2012 outdoor
schedule on Saturday, traveling to Memphis, Tenn. for the Rhodes
Open Meet. Four Warriors competed at the non-scoring meet.
Freshman Sarah Frelich (Maribel, Wis./Denmark) set the school
record in the women's 800-meter run after she crossed the finish
line in 2:22.05 for 17th place out of 56 competitors in the event.
Frelich broke teammate Alyssa Schumacher's (Johnson Creek,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) previous school record of 2:23.12 from last
season. Freshman Chelsea Yerks (Saginaw, Mich./Michigan Lutheran)
also competed in the event and set a season-best time of
3:00.37.
In the women's one mile run, Schumacher won her heat and placed
14th out of 50 competitors with a personal-best time of
5:19.00.
Freshman Steve Van Alstine (Howards Grove, Wis./Manitowoc
Lutheran), the only Warrior represented on the men's team, competed
in the men's one mile run and established a personal-best time of
5:10 .41.
Wisconsin Lutheran resumes its outdoor season of competition
March 30-31 at the Washington University Invitational in St. Louis,
Mo.
