RIVER FOREST, Ill. -

The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team dropped a pair of Northern Athletics Conference games against Concordia Chicago 13-2 and 9-2 on Saturday at Cougar Field in River Forest, Ill.

In the opener, CUC got to the Warriors right away as the Cougars took a 1-0 lead after one inning and then recorded seven runs in the bottom of the second to take an 8-0 lead after two innings of play. In the seven-run second inning, Shawn Miller and Dan Eichholzer each had two-RBI singles for CUC.

The host Cougars continued to build on their lead by adding a run in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to take a 13-0 advantage heading into the sixth inning. Miller continued his strong play in game one with a two-RBI triple in the fifth inning.

The Warriors got on the board in the seventh when Taylor Meyer (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) singled in Sam Braaten (Appleton, Wis./East) and also got a run on an RBI walk from Connor Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran).

No players recorded multiple hits for WLC in the game one loss, but Meyer did have the RBI single in his only plate appearance of the game. Miller was the Cougars top hitter in game one, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and three runs scored.

Brenden Schulz picked up the win for Concordia Chicago as he went six innings, allowing just two hits. Jaime Paumen (Glencoe, Minn./Silver-Lake) took the loss for Wisconsin Lutheran. Scott Rivers (Waukesha, Wis./North) pitched one and a third innings of scoreless relief for the Warriors.

Game two again saw the Cougars take an early lead as they plated a run each in the first and second innings to go up 2-0. WLC answered with a run in the fourth when Tyler Schoen (Marion, Wis./Marion) roped an RBI double that scored Brett Youngbeck (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer) to cut the lead to 2-1.

Unfortunately for Wisconsin Lutheran, Concordia Chicago had an answer as it tacked on three runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings to build its lead to seven runs at 8-1 after six frames. The Warriors added a run in the eighth inning when Youngbeck scored after starting the frame with a double. CUC would plate another run in the eighth to make the final 9-2 in favor of the Cougars.

Youngbeck, Schoen and Garrick Day (Elk Mound, Wis./Elk Mound) all tallied multiple hits in game two as Schoen had the only run driven in and Youngbeck scored both runs to help pace the WLC offense. Anthony Even had four hits to lead CUC.

Dan Kluss recorded the win for the Cougars (23-8, 10-4 NAC) as he went five innings giving up four hits and one earned run. Josh Smith (Appleton, Wis./East) was charged with the loss throwing four and two-thirds innings. Sam Mattheis (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) relieved Smith and went three and a third innings, giving up just one run. Both WLC pitchers struck out three Cougars hitters.

Wisconsin Lutheran (7-23, 5-9 NAC) will return to the diamond on Sunday when it hosts NAC co-leader Aurora (24-6, 11-3 NAC) in a doubleheader. First pitch between the Warriors and Spartans at Neumann Family Field is set for 1 p.m.
