RIPON, Wis. - The
Wisconsin Lutheran College men's track & field team placed
fifth at the Private College Championships which were held on
Sunday. The Warriors scored 73 points at the event which took place
at Ingalls Field on the Ripon campus.
WLC had three first-place finishers on the day starting with
sophomore Nathan Boerneke (Fox Lake, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) as he
topped all competitors in the 110-meter hurdles. Boerneke won the
event by finishing the race in 18.28 seconds. Sophomore Tommy Jones
(Delavan, Wis./Delavan-Darien) also came away with a first-place
finish for Wisconsin Lutheran, winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase
in 10:43.89. The other first-place finisher for WLC was freshman
Mike Reeves (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) as he won the
100-meter dash with a time of 11.25.
Boerneke also added a second-place finish for Wisconsin Lutheran at
the championships as he competed in the 400-meter hurdles,
finishing the race with a time of 60.86. Reeves also competed in
the 200-meter dash and placed third in the event by running a
23.12. Sophomore Malachi Wallander (Menasha, Wis./Fox Valley
Lutheran) was another top-three finisher on Sunday for the Warriors
as he placed third in the pole vault. Wallander cleared 3.38 meters
to give him the top-three finish.
Other Warriors who scored points at the meet were Isaac Hill
(Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran), Sam Wallace (Appleton, Wis./Fox
Valley Lutheran), Jack Albert (La Crosse, Wis./Luther) and Paul
Watson (Wildomar, Calif./California Lutheran). Wallace scored in
both the 1,500- and 800-meter runs, while Albert and Hill joined
him in scoring points in the 1,500-meter run. Watson picked up
points in the 200-meter dash, finishing sixth in the event.
The Warriors were fifth out of seven scoring teams with 73
points. St. Norbert scored 195 points to claim the team crown.
Wisconsin Lutheran will return to action next weekend when it
competes in the Northern Athletics Conference Outdoor Track &
Field Championships. The meet, scheduled for May 4-5, will begin
Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Lisle-BenU Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill. Day
two of the event will take place at Concordia Stadium in River
Forest, Ill. and will begin at 11 a.m.
