BELOIT, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team dropped both games of its non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday to Beloit, falling 8-1 and 8-5 at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium.

In game two, the Warriors jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. Sophomore Garrick Day (Elk Mound, Wis./Elk Mound) stole home to get the Warriors on the board first. An RBI single from junior Tyler Schoen (Marion, Wis./Marion) scored junior Doug Martin (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran), and an RBI single by freshman Sam Mattheis (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) brought home Schoen to bring the lead to 3-0. Mattheis later singled home Martin in the top of the third to bring the Warriors advantage to 4-0.

Beloit first got to sophomore starting pitcher Alex Nikolai (South Milwaukee, Wis./Thomas More) in the bottom of the fourth to trim the lead to 4-1. The Warriors got the run back in the top of the fifth when Martin took advantage of an error by the third baseman to score their fifth run of the game.

Beloit responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 5-5. The hosts added three more in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead for good, 8-5.

The Bucs added two more in the sixth and seventh innings to bring their lead to 8-0. The Warriors got on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth when Schoen took advantage of a Beloit error to cross the plate, but the Warriors would fall 8-1.

Freshman Joey Mayefski (Larsen, Wis./Winneconne) took the loss for WLC, allowing six earned runs in three innings. Senior Steve Gustafson (West Bend, Wis./Luther Preparatory) pitched five solid innings of relief, giving up just one hit and one earned run.
