LOVES PARK, Ill. -

The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team was swept in a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader against conference-leading Rockford on Monday at RiverHawks Stadium. Rockford took game 11-3 and then won the nightcap, 13-5.

In the opener, WLC got on the board in the top of the first when Tyler Schoen (Marion, Wis./Marion) drove in Cody Nevils (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) on an RBI-groundout to give the Warriors an early lead. RC came back with a run of its own in the bottom of the frame making the score 1-1 after one inning of play.

That score would hold until the bottom of the third when the Regents plated three runs to take a three-run lead. Rockford then plated another three runs in the bottom of the fifth on a Ryne Billesbach bases-clearing double to give the home team a 7-1 lead after five innings. Rockford then expanded the lead to 9-1 after a pair of runs in the sixth.

The Warriors scored two runs in the top of the seventh when Connor Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) drove in a pair with a two-RBI single scoring Jacob Redman (Swansboro, N.C./Swansboro) and Brandon Mantz (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran). Rockford would add a run each in the seventh and eighth and WLC would not score past the seventh giving the Regents the 11-3 game one win.

Redman and Brett Youngbeck (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer) each tallied two hits to lead Wisconsin Lutheran in the opener, while Vredeveld led the team with two RBI. Jake Nicholson was the top hitter for Rockford going 3-for-4 and driving in three.

Jaime Paumen (Glencoe, Minn./Silver-Lake) took the loss for WLC as he threw five and two-thirds innings and struck out one. Joey Hodkiewicz (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) threw the final two and a third innings and gave up just one earned run. Daryn Streed picked up the victory throwing seven innings and allowing two earned runs.

Game two saw the Warriors bats come out swinging as they plated three runs in the top of the first. Schoen and Doug Martin (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) drove in runs during the three-run frame, while Garrick Day (Elk Mound, Wis./Elk Mound), Youngbeck and Schoen all scored in the frame.

Unfortunately for Wisconsin Lutheran, Rockford (22-14, 17-3 NAC) also had a great start as the Regents scored two runs in each of the first four innings and six of the first seven innings, giving them a 10-5 lead after seven. Rockford added a run in the eighth to take game two, 11-5.

Sam Mattheis (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) led the Warriors with three hits in game two, while Schoen had a 2-for-5 performance and drove in a pair of runs. Day, Nevils and Youngbeck also all had two hits in the nightcap. Jimmy Dercks led the Regents in the second contest going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two driven in.

Ian Zahn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) took the loss for WLC as he pitched three innings. The win went to Corey Seipts who allowed four earned runs with four strikeouts in six innings of work.

Wisconsin Lutheran (10-28, 7-13 NAC) will conclude its season with a conference doubleheader at Maranatha (0-29, 0-20 NAC) on Saturday afternoon. First pitch between the Warriors and Crusaders is set for 12 p.m. at Washington Park in Watertown, Wis.
