SCHAUMBURG, Ill.

- The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team dominated game one of a doubleheader against Dominican on Monday, winning 13-1 en route to its third straight victory. The Warriors however had to settle for a split as the Stars rallied for a game two 10-7 win at Alexian Field in the Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader.

Game one was all Warriors as they were in control throughout the entire contest. WLC started its scoring in the top of the first as Garrick Day (Elk Mound, Wis./Elk Mound) started the rally with a double and scored on a Cody Nevils (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) single. Nevils then later scored on a Brett Youngbeck (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer) single to give WLC an early 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin Lutheran added three runs in the third inning to go up 5-0 as Doug Martin (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran), Tyler Schoen (Marion, Wis./Marion), and Brandon Mantz (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) each recorded RBIs in the frame. WLC then put three more runs up in the fourth in an inning which began with a Day triple.

The Warriors kept the hot bats going as they plated one more in the fifth, three in the sixth and another in the seventh as they had little trouble during the 13-1 seven-inning victory. The Stars plated their lone run in the third inning.

Day led the Warriors offense, which finished with 17 total hits, as he smacked two doubles and a triple while scoring three runs and driving in two. Nevils was also 3-for-4, scoring four runs and driving in two. Mantz recorded three-RBI, while Schoen and Connor Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) each added three hits as WLC got contributions from the top to bottom of its lineup in game one.

Jaime Paumen (Glencoe, Minn./Silver-Lake) picked up his second win and third quality start of the season as the freshman right-hander allowed just four hits while striking out three in the complete game victory. DU's Zack Roszak took the loss pitching six innings.

In game two, the host Stars went up first as they scored an unearned run in the bottom of inning number one to take a 1-0 lead. WLC answered however, as it scored twice in the top of the second when Day recorded a two-out, two-RBI double making the score 2-1.

Dominican answered in the bottom of the second as it plated four runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Tim Dernulc to give the Stars a 5-2 advantage after two innings of play.

Wisconsin Lutheran answered again as it tallied three runs in the top of the third to even things at 5-5. Martin roped a double to start the inning and Youngbeck doubled in Martin, while Mantz also recorded an RBI single in the frame.

Both teams added unearned runs in the fourth inning, but it was Dominican which added two compared to the Warriors one as the Stars led 7-6 after four complete. WLC would answer in the sixth when it was Youngbeck again doubling in Martin to even things up at 7-7 after six complete.

Dominican (12-11, 4-4 NAC) had the final answer however, as it plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh, including a two-RBI single from Jon Basinski. WLC failed to score in its final two at-bats allowing the home team to salvage a doubleheader split.

Freshman Scott Rivers (Waukesha, Wis./North) took the loss for WLC despite allowing an earned run in one-third of an inning pitched. Rivers gave up three unearned runs in the seventh. Dominican reliever Cody Mueller got the win pitching three and a third innings of no-hit ball while striking out six.

Youngbeck had two hits and two RBI to lead the Warriors offense, while Martin stayed hot at the plate picking up two hits and scoring three runs in game two. Basinski led DU with two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored.

Wisconsin Lutheran (6-17, 4-4 NAC) will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when it plays a single non-conference game against NCAA Division I Wisconsin-Milwaukee (11-17). First pitch between the Warriors and Panthers is set for 3 p.m. at Henry Aaron Field in Milwaukee.
