The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team opened its
2012 season with a 0-0 double overtime tie against Bethany Lutheran
College Friday night in a non-conference match at Warrior
Field.
Junior Cari Westover (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led the attack for the
Warriors with four shots, three on goal. Junior Maggie Smith
(Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) added three shots including one on
goal.
Bethany Lutheran (0-0-1) out-shot Wisconsin Lutheran 4-3 in the
opening 45 minutes, but Warriors sophomore goalkeeper Kate Gucinski
(Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) kept the Vikings off the
scoreboard by making two first-half saves.
WLC edged BLC in second-half shots, 7-5. Both overtime periods were
split with Bethany Lutheran recording one shot in the first
overtime and Wisconsin Lutheran recording two shots in the second
overtime period.
Sophomore Sarah Luebke (Kaukauna, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) made
three saves in the second half and overtime periods for the shared
shutout. BLC goalie Alexa Mowery made seven saves while also
recording a shutout.
The Warriors out-shot the Vikings in the contest, 12-10. Junior
Nicole DiSalvo (Waterford, Wis./ Waterford) added two shots on goal
for the Warriors. A trio of Warriors also tallied a shot, including
sophomores Laura Kent (Iron Mountain, Mich./ Iron Mountain) and
Maggie Gartner (Springdale, Ark./ Har-Ber) and freshman Stephaney
Scott (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran). Kindra Fairburn and
Paige Taylor each led the Vikings with three shots.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-0-1) resumes play Saturday afternoon when it
takes on Martin Luther College (0-0) in a 12 p.m. non-conference
match.
