Warriors Fall Short Against Six-Time Defending NAC Champs

AURORA, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team was defeated by six-time defending Northern Athletics Conference champion Aurora 4-0 Tuesday afternoon at Vago Field.

The Warriors kept the undefeated Spartans off the first-half scoreboard until the 16-minute mark when Kaitlyn Crohan scored the game's first goal off an assist from Kristina Umlauf. AU netted its second and final tally of the first half 10 minutes later when Raquel Rodriguez found the back of the net off an assist from Britney Schenck.

Warriors sophomore goalkeeper Kate Gucinski (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) made seven saves in the first half as the host Spartans attempted 15 shots, including nine on goal.

WLC continued to battle AU in the second half, allowing five fewer shot attempts. Aurora scored both of its second-half goals within the first 12 minutes of the period as Megan Burger (48:02) and Danielle Gillberg (56:14) each recorded tallies. Rodriguez and Crohan assisted on the second-half scores.

After stopping three shots in the second half, Gucinski finished with 10 saves in the game for WLC.

Burger and Nicci Bermudes totaled a game-high five shots for the Spartans (9-0-1, 6-0-0 NAC). Amanda Liss earned her first win of the season in net for AU.

Wisconsin Lutheran (3-6-2, 0-4-0 NAC) returns to action Saturday when it faces cross-town rival MSOE (5-3-1, 2-2-0 NAC) at Hart Park in Wauwatosa, Wis. The contest between the Warriors and Raiders is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
