Warriors Set School Scoring Record In Rout Of Rockford

Box Score

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College football team won its fourth straight game and scored a program-record 63 points in a 63-6 drubbing of Rockford Saturday at Sam Greeley Field.

WHERE THEY STAND

  • The Warriors improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in NACC play, while the Regents dropped to 1-7 with an 0-4 conference mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • WLC took the opening kickoff and rapidly moved 61 yards in just five plays as Gino DeGeorge (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) connected with Javion Morgan (Naples, Fla./Palmetto Ridge) on a 33-yard touchdown pass to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead just 1:55 into the game.
  • Later in the first quarter, the Warriors took advantage of good field position and a personal foul penalty on Rockford to cross the goal line on a two-yard touchdown run by Joshua Helton (Houston, Texas/Waltrip).
  • On the ensuing drive, the Regents fumbled the ball away and Jake Henes (Menominee, Mich./Menominee) recovered at Rockford's 25-yard line. WLC found the end zone off of the turnover on DeGeorge's four-yard pass to Brad Nemetz (Denmark, Wis./Denmark) to extend the lead to 21-0 after one quarter.
  • On its first drive of the second quarter, Matt Grams (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) drilled a career-long 41-yard field goal.
  • After a three-and-out by Rockford, the Warriors scored on a one-play drive when DeGeorge threw a screen to Mike King (Orlando, Fla./East Ridge) who juked and spun away from defenders on a dash to the end zone for a 40-yard touchdown.
  • WLC's next drive also lasted just one play as DeGeorge found Pete Alsip (Mount Prospect, Ill./John Hersey) for a 32-yard scoring strike to push the lead to 39-0, which remained the score at halftime.
  • Early in the third quarter, Chris Williams (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Bulls College Prep) scored on a 14-yard touchdown run. Grams added a 32-yard field goal with 3:37 remaining in the third quarter.
  • In the final minute of the third, backup quarterback Nick Schroeder (Oconomowoc, Wis./Arrowhead) tossed a screen to Morgan, who sped down the sideline for a 40-yard touchdown, his second of the game.
  • Rockford's lone mark on the scoreboard came early in the fourth quarter, when Reginald Haynes hit Mar Sean Vercher with a 50-yard touchdown pass.
  • With 11:31 to go in the game, Travis Turnquist (Madison, Wis./East) intercepted a pass and took it back 58 yards for a touchdown and the final tally of the contest. It was the second straight week in which Turnquist found the end zone.
