Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE - Jaime Paumen (Glencoe, Minn., Silver-Lake) tossed a three-hit shutout in game one and Garrick Day (Elk Mound, Wis./Elk Mound) allowed just one earned run in 8.0 innings in game two as the Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team swept Aurora 5-0 and 5-2 in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Neumann Family Fields.
Paumen (2-3) walked one and struck out three while throwing a complete game gem in game one, and the defense turned three double plays behind him. The Warriors (15-9, 6-4 NACC) scratched a run across in the first on Sam Mattheis' (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) RBI single to left.
WLC added on in the third, as Aaron Roeseler (Watertown, Wis./Luther Preparatory) hit a run-scoring groundout and Brett Youngbeck (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer) clubbed a two-out RBI single to left to extend the lead to 3-0. The Warriors took advantage of three Spartans' (9-21, 5-9 NACC) errors to score their final two runs in the sixth. Connor Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) was credited with an RBI after reaching on an error and Roeseler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for his second RBI of the game.
Cody Love (2-4) suffered the loss for Aurora after surrendering five runs, two earned, with no walks and five strikeouts in 8.0 innings.
The Warriors once again got on the board in the first inning in game two, as Youngbeck and Brandon Mantz (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) each hit run-scoring singles to give WLC a 2-0 lead. Roeseler knocked an RBI single in the third and Youngbeck scored him with a double to left to push the advantage to 4-0. The Warriors tacked on their final run in the fourth on an error by the Spartans.
Rafer Cooley drilled an RBI double to left in the fifth and Dillon Popovich smacked a run-scoring single in the seventh for Aurora's lone runs. Day (3-0) gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits, struck out five, and walked none in 8.0 innings for the victory. Alex Raver (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) pitched a flawless ninth for his second save of the season.
Youngbeck was 2-for-3 with two RBI, Ryan Stancl (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) was 2-for-4, and Vredeveld scored three runs for the Warriors in game two.
Jared Steck (2-3) allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits in the loss.
