Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE - Carlos Olavarria was a combined 5-for-9 with three doubles and eight RBI to lead No. 3 Concordia Chicago to a doubleheader sweep of the Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team Tuesday afternoon at Neumann Family Fields. WLC dropped game one 8-5 before being shut out 7-0 in game two.
Olavarria got the scoring started for the Cougars (26-3, 13-1 NACC) in the third inning of game one with an RBI double to left. Kyle Huber scored him with a triple to right field to put CUC in front 2-0. Huber added an RBI double in the fifth and Olavarria knocked a run-scoring single in the sixth to push the lead to 4-0.
The Warriors (15-11, 6-6 NACC) rallied in the seventh inning, as Aaron Roeseler (Watertown, Wis./Luther Preparatory) drew a bases-loaded walk and Sam Mattheis (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) clubbed a two-run single to cut the deficit to 4-3.
Concordia Chicago grabbed the three runs right back in the top of the eighth as Olavarria hammered a three-run double to left-center. Huber's leadoff homer in the ninth gave the Cougars an 8-3 advantage. WLC scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth, with one coming on an error and the other scoring on Zack Skog's (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) RBI single to left.
Travis Stahulak (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) (0-3) allowed four runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings, walked five, and struck out eight in the loss. Mattheis was 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Jake Klemme (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) and Ryan Stancl (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) each went 2-for-4.
C.J. Selner (4-1) held WLC to three runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings for the victory. Olavarria was 3-for-4 with five RBI and Huber was 3-for-5 with three RBI in game one.
In game two, Olavarria once again jump-started the Cougars' offense in the third inning with a run-scoring double. Will Polley and Will Randerson each added RBI doubles in the inning to give CUC a 3-0 lead.
Randerson smacked a two-out RBI single to center in the fifth, and the Cougars added three more in the eighth as Olavarria hit a two-run single and a third run came home after an error on the play.
Joey Hodkiewicz (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) (1-2) gave up seven runs (six earned) in the complete game loss. Garrick Day (Elk Mound, Wis./Elk Mound) was 3-for-4 and Klemme was 2-for-3.
Cody Caballero (3-0) pitched 7.2 scoreless innings, walked two, and struck out five for the win. Randerson was 4-for-5 with two RBI and Olavarria was 2-for-5 with three RBI for the Cougars.
