Box Score PEWAUKEE, Wis. - Cardinal Stritch scored a pair of runs in the ninth inning to hand the Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team a 3-2 non-conference defeat on a walk-off wild pitch Friday afternoon at WCTC Field. The loss marked the fifth in a row for WLC (15-14).
The Wolves (12-22) broke a scoreless tie in the third inning on an RBI double by Chris Bass. The Warriors tied the game in the fifth when Sam Mattheis (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) walked, stole both second and third, and came home to score on an error.
The game featured a pitcher's duel between WLC freshman Noah Schriefer (San Diego, Calif./California Lutheran) and Wolves' freshman Tim Kolbe. Schriefer limited Stritch to one run on four hits in five innings, while Kolbe allowed just one unearned run on eight hits in 6.1 frames. Neither pitcher factored in the decision.
Vince Collelo (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest) put the Warriors in front in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly that scored Taylor Meyer (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton). Clint Andresen tied the game with a run-scoring single to left in the ninth. With the bases loaded and one out in the inning, a wild pitch by Aaron Kieweg (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) allowed Jordan Stretch to cross the plate with the winning run for the Wolves.
Mattheis was 3-for-3 with two walks and a run scored, while Travis Stahulak (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) and Matt Wick (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) chipped in with two hits apiece. Kieweg (1-1) was charged with the loss, but both of the runs he allowed in 3.1 innings were unearned.
Bass was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Stritch and Stretch was 2-for-3. James Reinowski (1-0) gave up one run in 2.2 innings for the victory.
Wisconsin Lutheran (15-14, 6-8 NACC) returns to NACC play with a doubleheader against MSOE (11-18, 7-9 NACC) Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. at Neumann Family Fields.
