Box Score 2 FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team opened its 2015 season at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic Monday, splitting its doubleheader against Haverford (Pa.). The Warriors came away with a 5-2 game one victory, before falling in game two 8-4.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- WLC wasted little time scoring its first runs of the season. In the bottom of the first, Brett Youngbeck (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer) flied to center to score Connor Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) as the Warriors took a 1-0 lead.
- In the second inning, Korben Biersack (Greenfield, Wis./Greenfield) led off with a single and Josiah Boucher (Menasha, Wis./Menasha) reached on an error. Another error allowed Biersack and Boucher to score.
- Aaron Roeseler (Watertown, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and Youngbeck singled to plate two more as WLC jumped out to a 5-0 advantage.
- Haverford scored its first run in the top of the fourth, as an error on a strikeout and a hit batter allowed two Fords to reach base as Mike Tentilucci grounded in a run.
- Jaime Paumen (Glencoe, Minn./Silver-Lake) pitched two consecutive three-up, three-down innings in the fifth and the sixth. Zach Taylor homered for Haverford, but Paumen shut the door for the complete game victory.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- WLC again jumped out of the gate quickly as Sam Mattheis (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) singled to second and then proceeded to steal second and third, before a throwing error allowed him to score.
- Youngbeck singled up the middle and Zack Skog (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) reached on a wild pitch.
- Jake Grollo (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) singled and Youngbeck was able to score before Skog was thrown out at third as Wisconsin Lutheran took a 2-0 lead.
- Haverford took the lead in the bottom of the third as it plated four runs in the inning, highlighted by Zach Taylor's steal of home plate.
- The Warriors tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth, as Youngbeck used a sacrifice fly to center, and Roeseler scored on a pick off of Mattheis at first.
- In the bottom of the fifth, the Fords took the lead for good, as they scored four more runs on a passed ball and a wild pitch and RBIs from Thomas Vollaro and Ben Verducci to take an 8-4 advantage. The Warriors had runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Clay Bloszies forced Skog to ground out to end the game.
QUICK HITS
- Over both games of the doubleheader, Youngbeck went a combined 4-for-4 with three RBI and two walks.
- In game one, Connor Vredeveld went 2-for-2 and had two RBIs.
- Paumen earned the win for the Warriors, pitching a complete game and allowing two runs on four hits while also striking out seven.
- Max Gerard took the loss for the Fords, allowing five runs on four hits and issuing four walks.
- In game two, Brock Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and Mattheis collected two hits apiece.
- Haverford had a trio of players record two hits each and had five players record RBIs. Grant Finn picked up the win for the Fords in an inning of work as Noah Schriefer (San Diego, Calif./California Lutheran) was credited with the loss for the WLC.
