Box Score 2 RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team played two tough games against NACC leader Concordia Chicago Sunday afternoon at Cougar Field. After mounting a comeback, the Warriors dropped the first game 13-7, and fell in game two 8-3.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Carlos Olavarria singled up the middle to score Brendan Klein to start the bottom of the first for the Cougars.
- Doug Mathews homered to center to plate the only run of the second inning for CUC as it built a 2-0 lead.
- Sam Mattheis (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) singled to center to score Josiah Boucher (Menasha, Wis./Menasha) for the Warriors' first run of the game in the third. WLC scored a second run in the third on a CUC throwing error after Brandon Mantz (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) singled to short.
- CUC answered with four runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning off two hits and two errors.
- Aaron Roeseler (Watertown, Wis./Luther Preparatory) scored the Warriors' only run of the fifth inning on another CUC error.
- Matthews extended the CUC lead to five runs with a two-run single, and scored later in the inning.
- Connor Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) sent a two-run shot over the left field fence to start a four-run seventh inning for WLC as the Warriors closed to within two runs at 9-7.
- CUC responded with a four-run seventh of its own to break open the game.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The first run of the game came off of a 6-3 groundout as CUC's Klein scored on the play.
- The Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second on three straight RBIs from Klein, Joe Silva, and Olavarria.
- The Warriors stranded two runners on base in the third and CUC scored three times in the fifth for a 7-0 lead.
- The Warriors bats came alive in the seventh. After a balk that led to a run, Mattheis and Brock Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) drove in one run each on back-to-back singles.
- CUC got a run off of two hits in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score read 8-3.
QUICK HITS
- Mattheis continued his hot streak going 4-for-8 on the day with 3 RBIs.
- Six Warriors had multiple-hit games throughout the day; Mattheis (2), Mantz, Roeseler, Connor Vredeveld, and Brock Vredeveld.
- The Warriors got seven runs on 10 hits in game one and three runs on six hits in game two.
- Travis Stahulak (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) allowed nine runs, but just four earned in the opener, and suffered the loss on the hill. Brock Vredeveld was dealt the loss in the rubber game.
- Matthews went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and four runs scored in game one for the Cougars. Olavarria went 4-for-5 with three RBIs in the nightcap. CUC went for 25 hits on the day, 12 in the opener, 13 in the nightcap.
