Four-Run Inning Fuels Warriors To Win Over Falcons

MEQUON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team got a much-needed series split Sunday at Concordia Wisconsin, dropping game one 9-2, before ending a four-game losing streak in game two with a 4-3 win over the Falcons at Kapco Park.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second on a sacrifice bunt by Zack Skog (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) and a Connor Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) RBI single that plated Jake Grollo (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls).
  • But in the third, Concordia Wisconsin scored six runs off five hits to take a 6-2 lead. 
  • The Falcons scored a run in the fourth and two in the seventh as the Warriors couldn't bring home any additional runs.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • CUW went ahead 3-0 in the second, scoring on a double and a wild pitch. 
  • The game remained scoreless for the next four innings before WLC broke through for four runs in the seventh off a two-RBI double by Korben Biersack (Greenfield, Wis./Greenfield), a sacrifice fly by Matt Wick (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett), and a wild pitch that scored Biersack.
  • Concordia Wisconsin threatened in both the eighth and ninth, leaving two on base each inning, before Brock Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) shut the door for the complete game victory.

QUICK HITS

  • Aaron Roeseler (Watertown, Wis./Luther Preparatory) went 3-for-3 in the opener for the Warriors and Brett Youngbeck (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer) was 2-for-4.
  • Matt Schubert was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Falcons. 
  • CUW out-hit WLC 9-8.
  • Starter Aaron Kieweg (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) suffered the loss in 4.0 innings of work after allowing four earned runs and striking out six. 
  • Andrew Heideman picked up his third win of the year in 9.0 innings, allowing two runs and posting five strikeouts.
  • The Warriors committed four errors in game one.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran had just three hits in the nightcap, but did just enough to win the game.
  • Josiah Boucher (Menasha, Wis./Menasha) went 2-for-3 and Biersack collected the other hit for WLC. Biersack also contributed two RBIs.
  • Kyle Hegeman had two hits and a run scored for CUW. 
  • The Falcons out-hit the Warriors 7-3.
  • Brock Vredeveld earned his third win of the season in 9.0 innings after allowing two earned runs.
  • Carter Buuck took the loss after 9.0 innings of work and four earned runs on three hits.
