Baseball Claims 9-4 Non-Conference Win Over Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team scored runs in six different innings en route to claiming a 9-4 non-conference win over Carroll Tuesday afternoon at Frame Park. The win was the Warriors' fourth straight over the Pioneers.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• The Warriors grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Connor Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) cross home plate on a passed ball and Brett Youngbeck (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer) followed with a sac fly that scored Sam Mattheis (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia).
• WLC loaded the bases with one out in the second, but could only plate one run when Connor Vredeveld's fielder's choice scored Matt Wick (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett).
• Wisconsin Lutheran made it 4-0 in the third when Zack Skog's (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) RBI single scored Brandon Mantz (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran).
• The Pioneers plated a pair of runs in their half of the third when two runners scored on separate passed balls.
• The Warriors scored for the fourth straight inning in the fourth when Aaron Roeseler (Watertown, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and Mattheis drove in runs with a back-to-back RBI single and double, respectively.
• Connor Vredeveld drove in his second run of the game in the sixth on an RBI single that drove home Ryan Stancl (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin).
• Carroll closed to within 7-4 in its half of the seventh with two runs on two hits. WLC escaped further damage by stranding a pair of Pioneers on base.
• Skog provided the Warriors with two insurance runs in the ninth with his two-RBI double that brought home Youngbeck and Mattheis.

QUICK HITS

• Mattheis and Skog had two hits each for the Warriors, who finished with nine for the game. Skog drove in three runs and Connor Vredeveld reached base safely on all five of his plate appearances.
• Travis Stahulak (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) earned his third win of the season after giving up two runs (zero earned) on seven hits. He struckout three in 5.0 innings of work. Brock Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and Mattheis combined to finish off the final 4.0 innings on the mound.
• The Pioneers also totaled nine hits as three players had two hits each. Alex Olson scored twice and drove in a run for CU.
• Mark Carew was dealt the loss on the mound for Carroll. He allowed three runs (two earned) and walked three in 1.1 innings of work.
