Warriors Suffer Third Straight One-Run Defeat

FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team wrapped up its final day of competition at the Gene Cusic Classic Saturday, falling to Thiel 1-0 at the Player Development Complex.  

THE BASICS

• Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (4-5), Thiel (6-2)
• Location: Player Development Complex, Ft. Myers, Fla.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• The game was scoreless until bottom of the fifth inning when Matt Elko singled to left to score Josh Doody and give Thiel a 1-0 lead that it would never relinquish. The Warriors had a runner on in the bottom of the ninth but a double play ended the rally.
• KJ Banse (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) doubled and went 2-for-2 in the game, while Ryan Stancl (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin), Curtis Engelbrecht (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Northland Lutheran), and Matt Wick (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) each had a hit.
• Brock Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) pitched 8.0 innings and took the loss for Wisconsin Lutheran, allowing nine hits, one run, and striking out three.

FOR THE FOES

• Elko went 3-for-4 with one RBI for the Tomcats. Don Koller was 2-for-4 on the day.
• Jaden Nozicka earned his first win of the season, tossing a complete-game shutout, allowing five hits and notching three strikeouts.

UP NEXT

• Wisconsin Lutheran returns to Milwaukee with a 4-5 record and will next play a non-conference doubleheader at North Central (Ill.) (3-0) on March 26. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
