Undefeated Cardinals Take Two From Warriors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team dropped a pair of games in its northern opener against non-conference opponent North Central (Ill.) 6-1 in game one and 10-1 in game two Saturday at Zimmerman Stadium. The Cardinals are receiving votes in both national top 25 polls.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • After six scoreless innings, the Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the seventh off Brock Vredeveld's (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) RBI single.
  • North Central plated five runs in the bottom of the inning on its way to a 6-1 victory.
  • Vredeveld, KJ Banse (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's), and Colton Tisch (Genoa City, Wis./Badger) each had two hits in the contest.
  • Connor Rosin (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) had a great start, but took the loss for WLC as he allowed four runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Cardinals jumped out in front early, scoring four runs in the first three innings to take game two by a score of 10-1.
  • Banse led the Warriors with two hits in the contest, while six other players also recorded a hit. Brett Jakel (Reeseville, Wis./Waterloo) picked up the lone RBI for WLC.
  • Sid Lehman (Theresa, Wis./Mayville) pitched 6.0 innings, taking the loss for the Warriors. He allowed four earned runs off four hits.

FOR THE FOES

  • In game one, Jeremy Quade and Bobby Smith each had three hits. Chris Hill collected two RBI.  
  • Bryan Polowy earned his third win of the year, pitching 7.0 innings allowing six hits and one run while striking out eight.
  • Quade collected three more hits in game two and Nick Sotiros also had three hits and two RBI for the Cardinals.
  • Andrew Houser picked up his third win of the season, tossing 5.0 innings allowing five hits and one run while striking out six.

UP NEXT

  • Wisconsin Lutheran will host Beloit (8-4) on Monday for the home opener at Neumann Family Field. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live audio will be available for both games at WLCSports.com.
