Vredeveld's Walk-Off Hit Sends Warriors To Twinbill Split

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team split a pair of games against non-conference opponent Beloit, winning the first matchup 5-4, before dropping the nightcap 14-6 Monday at Neumann Family Field.

THE BASICS

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Wisconsin Lutheran took the early lead in the bottom of the first as Brock Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) crossed home plate off a Jake Grollo (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) sacrifice fly to right field to give the Warriors the only run in the first three innings.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, the Warriors posted two more runs. Colton Tisch (Genoa City, Wis./Badger) singled to center advancing Josiah Boucher (Menasha, Wis./Menasha) to third and scoring Ryan Stancl (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin).
  • At the next at-bat, Matt Wick (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) singled to left knocking in Boucher to put the Warriors up 3-0.
  • The Bucs plated one in the sixth and three in the seventh to take their first lead at 4-3.
  • In the ninth, the Warriors were down to their final strike and out with two runners on base. Vredeveld singled to right knocking in both runners. Sid Lehman (Theresa, Wis./Mayville) and Boucher both crossed the plate giving the Warriors the win in the first game in walk-off fashion. 
  • For the Warriors in game one, Vredeveld came up big going 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and one run scored.
  • Cameron Paladines (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) recorded his second win of the season in a relief role.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • It was all Buccaneers early in the second game as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead through the first four and a half innings before Tisch knocked in Stancl after a sacrifice fly.
  • WLC showed some life in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four runs starting with KJ Banse (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) who doubled down the right field line and scored Ryan Michael (Racine, Wis./Lutheran) and Jake Schwall (West Allis, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran).
  • Grollo followed suit contesting the right fielder even more as he singled through the right side scoring Stancl and Banse to cut the deficit to 9-5.
  • The lead was never overcome by the Warriors and the Buccaneers tacked on four more runs in the top of the ninth to close the door. 
  • Banse led all hitters in game two, batting 4-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and a stolen base.

FOR THE FOES

  • In game one, Kam Sallee went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Jalen Davis went 1-for-3, but recorded two stolen bases as part of the Buccaneers' five for the game.
  • In game two, Joey Casa went 3-for-5 and scored three runs. Ryan Kaveney supplied four RBI for the Buccaneers, and Colton Lopez (2-0) notched the win as he pitched 5.0 innings.
