Rosin's Compete-Game Shutout Highlights Opening Day Sweep

FT. MYERS, Fla. – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team swept its season-opening doubleheader from Emerson on Monday at Terry Park, winning the opener 5-0 before coming away with a convincing 12-3 win in game two to secure the sweep.

THE BASICS

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Warriors put pressure on the Lions early opening with a 2-0 lead off a Jake Grollo (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) solo homerun and run scored by Curtis Englebrecht (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Northland Lutheran) off a double by Joe Hanson (La Crosse, Wis./Logan) in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Ryan Stancl (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) scored another run in the bottom of the second inning, giving Josiah Boucher (Menasha, Wis./Menasha) the RBI on the fielder's choice. 
  • In the 5th, Grollo scored off a single from Engelbrecht, and in the 6th, Stancl's single plated KJ Banse (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) for the 5-0 lead.
  • Four players had two hits each in the opener for WLC, led by Grollo's 2-for-3, two-run performance.
  • Connor Rosin (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) was dominant on the mound in his collegiate debut, alloowing just two hits over seven innings and striking out eight.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Engelbrecht remained red hot at the plate in game two against Emerson. He went 4-for-5 with three runs scored with an RBI.
  • Stancl also went 3-for-5 with two RBI and Banse scored three times for the Warriors.
  • Cameron Paladines (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) picked up the win for the Warriors pitching six innings, allowing four hits, three runs, and striking out five. 
  • Scott Kamholtz (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) closed out the game for WLC allowing one hit in his season debut in relief.

FOR THE FOES

  • In game one, Mitch Moormann and Pablo Fieldman tallied the only two hits for the Lions.
  • Jack Capotorto started on the bump for Emerson, allowing 10 hits, five earned runs, and striking out one. 
  • In game two, Moormann scored three times and reached on one hit. 
  • Pablo Fieldman knocked in two runs off two sacrifice flies.
  • Emerson had four pitchers take the mound in the second game. Cal Laird suffered the loss pitching 3.1 innings and allowing eight hits and eight runs (six earned), while striking out two.
