Baron Leads Warriors To Twinbill Split With Panthers

FT. MYERS, Fla. – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team earned a split on day two of its spring break trip, defeating Pitt.-Bradford 1-0 in game one before dropping game two 2-0 on Tuesday at Terry Park.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Curtis Engelbrecht (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Northland Lutheran) hit a fielder's choice to short and Josiah Boucher (Menasha, Wis./Menasha) scored on a throwing error for the only run of the contest.
  • Ryan Stancl (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) recorded the only hit in the game for WLC. Kyle Baron (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) picked up his first collegiate win, tossing 6.1 innings and striking out six. Noah Schriefer (San Diego, Calif./California Lutheran) retired the last two batters to complete the shutout.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Wisconsin Lutheran could only muster three hits as Pitt.-Bradford picked up runs in the fourth and sixth innings to win 2-0 and earn the split.
  • Joe Hanson (La Crosse, Wis./Logan) went 2-for-3 and Brett Jakel (Reeseville, Wis./Waterloo) recorded the only other hit in the game.
  • Brock Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) pitched all 7.0 innings in a losing effort, allowing two runs off four hits while striking out eight.

FOR THE FOES

  • In game one, Brock Blovsky went 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot for the Panthers.
  • Ryan Northcott started on the hill for the Panthers allowing one hit, no earned runs, and striking out seven in 7.0 innings.  
  • In game two, Dalton Renn was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  .
  • Justin Beimel tossed a complete game shutout, allowing three hits and striking out one.
