Stancl's Game-Winning Hit Sends Warriors To Another Split

LISLE, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team earned a split against Benedictine Saturday afternoon after Ryan Stancl (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) hit a two-out, two-RBI single to right field in the ninth inning to give Wisconsin Lutheran a 5-4 victory in game two, after falling in game one 4-1 at The Sports Complex.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Warriors jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to an RBI single by Brett Jakel (Reeseville, Wis./Waterloo) that scored Stancl in the top of the second.
  • WLC kept BenU off the scoreboard until the seventh when Tanner Kiser homered to right field to put Benedictine up 2-1. The Eagles would tack on two more insurance runs for a 4-1 game one victory.
  • Curtis Engelbrecht (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Northland Lutheran) and Stancl led Wisconsin Lutheran with two hits each and Jakel collected an RBI.
  • Kyle Baron (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) pitched well in a losing effort as he allowed four runs off five hits in 7.1 innings.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Colton Tisch (Genoa City, Wis./Badger) had an RBI double in the second inning to score Sid Lehman (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) but the Eagles led 3-1 after three innings.
  • The Warriors tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth as Tisch had another RBI double and Jakel later plated Tisch on a bunt single.
  • BenU pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh to lead 4-3 heading into the ninth.
  • Engelbrecht singled to advance KJ Banse (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) to second base and both runners would move to second and third after a wild pitch. With two outs in the inning, Stancl ripped a single to right field to score Englebrecht and Banse and give WLC a 5-4 lead.
  • The Eagles had a runner on first the bottom of the ninth but Cameron Paladines (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) and Brock Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) shut the door to preserve the victory.
  • Tisch led Wisconsin Lutheran with three hits, two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored. Four other Warriors had two hits in the contest and Stancl notched a pair of RBIs.
  • Noah Schriefer (San Diego, Calif./California Lutheran) picked up a no-decision after pitching 6.0 innings, allowing four runs. Paladines scored his fourth win of the season as he tossed 2.2 innings allowing only two hits and Vredeveld earned his second save of the year in the nightcap.

FOR THE FOES

  • Five different Eagles had a hit in game one. Kiser picked up two RBIs for BenU.
  • Frank Greco scored his fifth win of the season in a complete game after allowing seven hits and one run.
  • Benedictine had four different batters have two hits and an RBI in game two.
  • Christopher Nesbitt took the loss after pitching the final frame and allowing three hits and two runs.

UP NEXT

  • Wisconsin Lutheran hosts Concordia Chicago (20-7, 8-2 NACC) on Sunday for a NACC doubleheader at Neumann Family Field.
