NACC-Leading Cougars Take Two From Warriors

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team suffered a tough sweep at the hands of NACC frontrunner Concordia Chicago on Sunday afternoon at Neumann Family Field by scores of 16-6 and 11-2.

THE BASICS

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Warriors jumped out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first with four consecutive singles from KJ Banse (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's), Curtis Engelbrecht (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Northland Lutheran), Matt Wick (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett), and Sid Lehman (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) to give WLC a 2-0 lead.
  • WLC tacked on another tally in the second when Banse singled in Brett Jakel (Reesevlle, Wis./Waterloo).
  • After CUC cut the lead to 3-1, the Warriors answered back in the third when Wick scored on a sac fly from Colton Tisch (Genoa City, Wis./Badger).
  • The Cougars took advantage of some defensive miscues in the sixth, scoring eight runs on five hits.
  • RBIs from Banse and Josiah Boucher (Menasha, Wis./Menasha) answered for the Warriors in their half of the sixth, but CUC cruised to a 16-6 victory in 8.0 innings.
  • Connor Rosin (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) went 5.0 innings and gave up five earned runs to suffer the loss on the mound.
  • The Warriors racked up 13 hits, led by two apiece from Banse, Engelbrecht, Wick, Lehman, and Boucher.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Cougars scored the first four runs of the game, but WLC got on the board in the fifth with RBIs from Tisch and Ryan Michael (Racine, Wis./Lutheran).
  • CUC scored the next seven runs, taking game two by a score of 11-2.
  • Brock Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) suffered the loss, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing five earned runs.
  • Banse led the team with two hits, while Tisch and Boucher added one apiece..

FOR THE FOES

  • Five different CUC players collected multiple hits in game one, led by three apiece from Mitch Wilson and Bryan VanDuser.
  • Adam Schmitt improved his record on the mound to 3-2, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing six runs.
  • Alex Meyers collected his fourth win of the season in game two, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing two runs on just hits.
  • Joe Silva led the Cougars at the plate with three hits and three RBIs.

UP NEXT

  • Wisconsin Lutheran hosts Carroll (10-9) on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader at Neumann Family Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Pioneers, who host Edgewood on Monday, are coming off a 2-1 loss against Concordia Wisconsin last Wednesday.
