Big Eighth Inning Sends Eagles Over Warriors

Box Score

LISLE, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Benedictine erupted for six runs in the eighth inning, including two home runs, to break open a 1-1 tie and hand the Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team a 7-1 defeat Wednesday afternoon at the Sports Complex. The game was the backend of an originally scheduled doubleheader from March 31.

  • Final Score: Benedictine 7, Wisconsin Lutheran 1
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (10-16, 3-9 NACC), Benedictine (15-9, 7-3 NACC)
  • Location: Benedictine University Sports Complex, Lisle, Ill.

  • The Eagles threatened in the first when their first two runners reached safely, but a caught stealing and a double play ended the threat.
  • The Warriors had their second runner reach scoring position in the fifth with nobody out, but BenU escaped with a strikeout and a pair of groundouts to keep the contest scoreless.
  • Benedictine struck first in the sixth on an RBI double from Michael Chaffin for a 1-0 lead. The Eagles stranded two runners as WLC starter Sid Lehman (Theresa, Wis.) curtailed additional damage.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran evened the score in its half of the sixth. Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) singled with one out and stole second a batter later. Jake Schwall's (West Allis, Wis.) two-out single advanced Dominick to third and the duo executed a double steal during Lehman's at-bat to tie the game at 1-1.
  • BenU belted a pair of one-out, two-run home runs in the eighth, and followed with another two-out, two-RBI triple to break open the tight game for a six-run lead.
  • WLC had one runner reach over the final two innings as the Eagles came away with the win.
  • Dominick collected two of the Warriors' five hits in the game. Lehman allowed just one run on two hits over 6.0 innings to earn the no-decision.

  • Kyle Mitter went 3-for-3 with two runs to lead the Eagles offense. Ryan Litavecz pitched a scoreless seventh inning of relief to earn the win.

  • The Warriors return home Saturday when they host Dominican (15-12, 9-3 NACC) for a 12:00 p.m. NACC doubleheader at Neumann Family Field. A live audio broadcast will be available for both games at WLCSports.com.
