Warriors Sweep Sabercats Tuesday In Watertown

WATERTOWN, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team combined to score 23 runs over two games while allowing just three en route to a non-conference series sweep over Maranatha Tuesday afternoon at Washington Park. The Warriors won the opener 17-3 before blanking the Sabercats 6-0 in the nightcap. It marked WLC's second doubleheader sweep of the season and 19th straight win over MBU.

  • The Warriors plated an early 3-0 lead in the first on RBI from Jake Schwall (West Allis, Wis.), Jake Constien (Sun Prairie, Wis.), and Ethan Orcutt (East Dubuque, Ill.).
  • WLC added two more runs to its total in the third on a Evan Sadowski (New Berlin, Wis.) RBI groundout and a Justin Grober (Chicago, Ill.) single for the 5-0 lead.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran's offense exploded for 12 runs on seven hits in the sixth inning to break the game wide open. The Green and White received run-scoring hits in the frame from Sadowski, Daven Eidem (Los Angeles, Calif.), Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.), Constien, and Jason Beduze (Watertown, Wis.).
  • The Sabercats scored their first three runs over the last two innings to avoid the shutout.
  • Gunner Amelunk (Wales, Wis.) and Constien led the Warriors with three hits apiece. Constien scored four runs while Sadowski drove in three.
  • Mike Hartmann (Milwaukee, Wis.) collected his first collegiate win on the mound after a 6.2 inning performance of three runs allowed and six strikeouts.

  • The Warriors had runners on base in each of the first three innings, but failed to score any runs as the game stood scoreless.
  • WLC broke through in the fourth with four runs on five hits courtesy of Nick Poblocki's (Bartlett, Ill.) two-RBI double, and RBI singles from Noah Schaser (Appleton, Wis.) and Josh Enevold (Jackson, Wis.).
  • Wisconsin Lutheran added two insurance runs in the seventh after Eidem scored from third on a throwing error and Sid Lehman (Theresa, Wis.) doubled in Matthew Schulenburg (Hampshire, Ill.).
  • Lehman and Poblocki led the Warriors with two hits each in the nightcap.
  • Noah Cook (Marshall, Wis.) tossed 5.0 shutout innings, while scattering five hits and fanning seven for his first collegiate victory on the mound.

  • Five different Sabercats had one hit each in the opener. Jonah Bailey allowed five runs in 5.0 innings on the mound. Kyle Cummins went 3-for-3 for MBU in game two. He also pitched all 7.0 innings and gave up six runs.
