Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team battled back from an early double-digit deficit to make things interesting, but time ran out on the Warriors as they fell 12-10 to the Hiram Terriers on Monday afternoon at the Lee County Player Development Complex. WLC brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, but its heroic comeback fell just short.
- Final Score: Hiram 12, Wisconsin Lutheran 10
- Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (0-3), Hiram (2-1)
- Location: Lee County Player Development Complex, Fort Myers, Fla.
- Hiram jumped on Warriors pitching right away in the first inning as the Terriers saw six of their first seven batters reach safely and posted four consecutive run-scoring hits later in the frame for an 11-0 lead after one.
- WLC chipped away at its deficit over the next three innings. Sophomore Matthew Schulenburg (Hampshire, Ill.) drove in senior Brannigan Hart (Davie, Fla.) to start the second inning with three straight hits.
- Hart and Schulenburg each tallied RBI singles in the third as Wisconsin Lutheran plated three runs. The Green and White put another three-spot on the board in the fourth when sophomore Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) and senior Spencer Michaelis (Wauwatosa, Wis.) each had RBI singles and Hart's sacrifice fly scored Dominick to trim the margin to 11-7.
- Junior Mike Hartmann (Milwaukee, Wis.) kept Hiram's offense in check as he tossed four straight scoreless relief innings and scattered four hits over a stretch of six innings.
- The Warriors' offense was stymied for four straight innings, as they were limited to two hits from the fifth through eighth innings.
- Trailing 12-7 in its last at-bat, WLC loaded the bases with two outs and Schulenburg cleared them with a booming double to right center to cut the deficit to 12-10. The Terriers were able to retire the final batter of the game to hold on for the two-run win.
- Schulenburg led Wisconsin Lutheran with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, driving in five runs. Four other plays tallied two hits apiece.
- Curtis Caithaml and Michael Corsillo had three hits each to combine for half of the Terriers' 12 hits in the game. Sam Boyle pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts to collect his first win of the season on the mound.
- The Warriors are back at the Player Development Complex tomorrow for a doubleheader against Defiance (1-2). The Yellow Jackets defeated Merchant Marine 7-1 in the first game of a twinbill earlier today. Live stats will be available for both games at WLCSports.com.
