Green Knights Survive Back-And-Forth Battle

DE PERE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team overcame a seven-run deficit by scoring nine unanswered runs, but host St. Norbert had the final answer as the hosts scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Warriors 10-9 on Saturday in non-conference action at Van Alstine Field.

  • The Green Knights struck first in the bottom of the first inning with two runs on three hits for a two-run lead.
  • SNC added a four-spot in the second inning for a six-run cushion after three straight hits to start the inning.
  • After another single tally from St. Norbert in the fourth inning, the Warriors tacked on five runs in the fifth after six straight batters reached base. Junior Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) singled home freshman Cooper Pease (Fort Atkinson, Wis.), junior Josh Enevold (Jackson, Wis.) followed with a three-run double that scored Dominick, senior Jayson Walczak-Zelem (Oak Creek, Wis.), and sophomore Tyler Wroblewski (Sussex, Wis.). Enevold then scored following a wild pitch.
  • WLC jumped in front in the seventh inning with three runs after four straight batters reached with two outs. Junior Nick Poblocki (Bartlett, Ill.) singled home Enevold and sophomore Danny Cain (Jackson, Wis.) doubled home Poblocki and junior Matthew Schulenburg (Hampshire, Ill.) for an 8-7 Warriors lead.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran took a two-run lead in the ninth after Schulenburg doubled home Enevold, who leadoff the inning with a triple.
  • The Green Knights rallied in their last at-bat, scoring three runs on four hits in the last of the ninth to walk off with a one-run win. 
  • Schulenburg led the Warriors with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate, driving in one run and scoring once. Dominick added three hits and Enevold scored twice. 

  • Jack Maastricht went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for St. Norbert. Sam Fonder pitched the final two innings of relief and earned the win.

  • The Warriors continue their season-long seven-game road swing with a doubleheader at Illinois Tech (0-0, 0-0 NACC) next Saturday, March 20. First pitch from Chicago's south side is scheduled for 12 p.m.
