Warriors Drop Twinbill At Illinois Tech

CHICAGO, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team dropped a pair of games against Illinois Tech on Saturday afternoon, falling 11-1 and 5-1 at Ed Glancy Field on Chicago's south side.

  • The Scarlet Hawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a two-out double to left field. Illinois Tech added two more runs in the second on a pair of RBI singles to center field.
  • The Warriors got on the board in the fourth as a leadoff double by junior Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) came around to score on a RBI groudout from junior Matthew Schulenburg (Hampshire, Ill.).
  • Illinois Tech added three runs in the fifth on a bases-clearing single to left center. The Scarlet Hawks extended the lead to 11-1 in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on four hits, including a pair of doubles. The Warriors put one runner on base in the seventh but fell 11-1 in seven innings.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran finished with three hits and Schulenburg drove in one run. Senior Jake Wiedower (St. Francis, Wis.) was charged with the loss, allowing six runs across five innings.

  • Illinois Tech scored once in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. Freshman Foster Engelhardt (North Richland Hills, Texas) tied the game in the second inning on a home run to left field.
  • The Scarlet Hawks regained the lead in the third inning with a pair of runs on three hits. The hosts added one more run in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 4-1.
  • Engelhardt singled in the seventh inning, but was unable to score. Illinois Tech added one more run in the bottom half of the eighth to take a four-run lead. Junior Josh Enevold (Jackson, Wis.) singled in the top of the ninth for the Warriors, but the Scarlet Hawks picked up the game two win, 5-1.
  • WLC finished with three hits, with Engelhardt collecting a pair. Sophomore Evan Theis (Richfield, Wis.) was handed the loss after allowing four runs over six innings.

  • The Scarlet Hawks finished with 13 hits in game one, with Connor Blake going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Ian Duke picked up the win on the mound, allowing one run in seven innings with seven strikeouts.
  • Austin Richardson got the win in game two, tossing seven innings and allowing one run. Michael Courtney collected three hits and scored twice.

  • The Warriors continue their stretch of road games with a doubleheader against Carroll (4-5) on Monday. Game one is scheduled for 3 p.m. with game two to follow at Frame Park in Waukesha. Live stats will be available for both games at WLCSports.com.
