Warriors Open NACC Slate Against MSOE

GLENDALE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team opened its NACC schedule with a pair of road games against MSOE on Sunday afternoon. The Raiders swept the Warriors in the doubleheader by scores of 16-2 and 8-5 at MSOE Raiders Stadium.

  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (5-14, 0-2 NACC), MSOE (5-7, 2-0 NACC)
  • Location: MSOE Raiders Stadium, Glendale, Wis.

  • After retiring the Warriors in order in the top of the first, MSOE opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Raiders added one more in the second on a pair of singles.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, the first six batters reached base for MSOE, and all six scored to increase the lead to 9-0. The Raiders posted five hits and four stolen bases in the inning before a trio of groundouts ended the frame.
  • MSOE scored three more in the fourth inning, including a solo home run, and one more in the fifth. The Warriors scored twice in the top of the sixth as junior Joshua Carlson (Tomah, Wis.) drove home a run with a single and junior Josh Enevold (Jackson, Wis.) notched a sacrifice fly to score the second run.
  • The Raiders added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth and closed out the Warriors for a 16-2 win in seven innings.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran finished with six hits, with freshman Foster Engelhardt (North Richland Hills, Texas) posting a double for the team's lone extra-base hit.
  • Senior Jake Wiedower (St. Francis, Wis.) was charged with the loss after allowing nine runs over three innings.

  • Enevold put the Warriors on the board in the top half of the first with a two-out RBI single to score freshman Cooper Pease (Fort Atkinson, Wis.). WLC scored again in the second after sophomore Dylan Pease (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) reached on a hit by pitch and later scored on a double by Cooper Pease.
  • Three consecutive hits in the third inning, including a RBI double by senior Jayson Walczak-Zelem (Oak Creek, Wis.) helped Wisconsin Lutheran take a three-run lead. Dylan Pease added to the lead in the third with a RBI groundout.
  • MSOE cut its deficit to 4-3 with a three-run third inning. Back-to-back hits and a passed ball allowed the first run to score, and a single and squeeze play allowed two more runs to reach home.
  • The Raiders took the lead behind a five-spot in the bottom of the fourth inning. The hosts recorded five straight hits, including a pair of RBI singles and a two-RBI triple to take an 8-4 lead heading into the fifth.
  • Junior Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) got one back for the Warriors in the fifth with a RBI groundout. WLC was unable to get any closer over the final four innings, and fell 8-5 to the Raiders.
  • Enevold finished 3-for-5 to lead the offense for Wisconsin Lutheran. The Warriors finished with nine hits as a team, with junior Nick Poblocki (Bartlett, Ill.) and sophomore Danny Cain (Jackson, Wis.) each recorded two.
  • Sophomore Evan Theis (Richfield, Wis.) was handed the loss. The bullpen duo of sophomore Glavine Matthes (Appleton, Wis.) and sophomore Blake Bontrager (Wellman, Iowa) held the MSOE offense scoreless for the final four innings.

  • The Raiders finished with 16 hits in game one, with Nick Stricker finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI and a home run. Tyler Gronert got the win on the mound, throwing seven innings and allowing two runs while striking out eight.
  • Brandon Beauchamp went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles while scoring twice as MSOE recorded 12 hits in game two. Joseph Teschke was awarded the win in relief, throwing two innings and allowing one run.
