Baseball Drops Home Doubleheader To MSOE

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The offense totaled 27 hits over two games, but the Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team dropped a pair of NACC games against MSOE on Monday afternoon at Neumann Family Baseball Field. The Warriors fell 8-7 in game one before dropping an 18-7 decision in the nightcap.

  • The Raiders scored once in the top of the first on a two-out infield single. Wisconsin Lutheran responded with two runs in the bottom half to take a 2-1 lead. The first three batters of the inning reached base, and junior Nick Poblocki (Bartlett, Ill.) drove home two runs with a single to center field.
  • In the second inning, junior Ethan Orcutt (East Dubuque, Ill.) led off with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on an infield single by junior Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.). Orcutt scored on a double steal to add to the Warriors' lead, but MSOE escaped the inning with a double play.
  • MSOE cut the deficit down to one with a RBI single to right field in the fourth. In the Warriors' half of the inning, freshman Spencer Jens (New London, Wis.) led off with a double but was stranded on third after a strike out and a groundout.
  • WLC scored twice in the fifth to increase its lead to three. One run scored on a double play groundout and freshman Foster Engelhardt (North Richland Hills, Texas) came home on a wild pitch.
  • The visitors scored once in the top of the eighth, but the Warriors answered with two runs to take a 7-3 lead. Senior Jayson Walczak-Zelem (Oak Creek, Wis.) crushed a home run to left field and sophomore Carter Raabe (Mukwonago, Wis.) drove in Orcutt in the inning.
  • The Raiders scored five times in the ninth inning to take an 8-7 lead. The first two runs scored on a triple to right center, and MSOE later took the lead with a RBI walk. Wisconsin Lutheran was retired in order in the bottom of the ninth as MSOE took game one.
  • WLC finished with 11 hits and three players recorded multiple hits, led by three from Orcutt. Poblocki paced the team with a pair of RBI.
  • Freshman Andrew Muffler (Waukesha, Wis.) earned the no-decision in the start, allowing three runs (one earned) across 7.2 innings pitched with eight strikeouts. Junior Diego Solares (Huntley, Ill.) was dealt the loss in the ninth inning.

  • The Raiders scored three times in the top of the first on just one hit. The first run scored on a passed ball and the other two scored on a bloop single to center field.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran responded with four in the bottom half of the inning. Freshman Cooper Pease (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) doubled home a run and Engelhardt drove in Pease with a single up the middle. Sophomore Danny Cain (Jackson, Wis.) plated the final two runs of the inning with a double to center field.
  • MSOE regained the lead with two runs in the second and four more in the third to take a 9-4 lead. WLC got one back in the bottom of the third as Poblocki scored on a passed ball.
  • The Raiders' lead continued to grow with runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to extend the advantage to eight. In the Warriors' half of the sixth, Engelhardt ripped a single down the left field line that scored Dominick.
  • The visitors tacked on more runs in both in eighth and ninth innings and picked up an 18-7 victory in game two.
  • The Warriors offense produced 16 hits with Pease and Engelhardt both finishing with three hits to lead the team. Dominick, Poblocki, Cain, and Walczak-Zelem each tallied a pair of hits in the loss.
  • Senior Joe Serbiak (Brookfield, Wis.) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs across two innings of work.

  • Brandon Beauchamp finished 2-for-4 with a double and a triple in game one for MSOE. He added a pair of RBI and two runs scored. Brad Demkovich got the win in relief, while Cole Raines collected his second save of the season with a clean ninth inning.
  • Nick Stricker produced four hits and four RBI as the Raiders' offense totaled 15 hits and 11 walks. Riley Wikel was awarded the win in relief after holding the Warriors to two runs across five innings with seven strikeouts in relief work.
