Baseball Splits Home Doubleheader With Muskies

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team totaled 30 hits and scored 21 runs as the Warriors split a home NACC doubleheader with Lakeland on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors fell in game one 10-8 before winning 13-9 in a rainy game two.

  • The Warriors took the early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first on three hits. After junior Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) and freshman Cooper Pease (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) singled to start the inning, junior Nick Poblocki (Barlett, Ill.) drove in the first run with a single to left. Junior Josh Enevold (Jackson, Wis.) plated the second run with a RBI fielder's choice.
  • Lakeland put one on the board in the fourth with a RBI groundout but Wisconsin Lutheran answered with two of its own in the bottom half of the inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Dominick delivered a two-run single to left field to give WLC a three-run lead. Enevold added to the lead with a RBI single in the fifth to score Cooper Pease.
  • The Muskies scored once in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-2.
  • In the eighth, the Warriors scored a pair of runs with two outs. Senior Jayson Walczak-Zelem (Oak Creek, Wis.) crossed the plate on a throwing error and sophomore Dylan Pease (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) drove in a run with a single to center field.
  • The Lakeland offense put together an eight-run ninth inning to take a 10-7 advantage. Three RBI singles cut the Muskies' deficit down to one, before a bases-clearing double to center field put the visitors in front. 
  • Enevold singled and drove in Cooper Pease in the bottom of the ninth but the Warriors fell 10-8.
  • The Warriors finished with 14 hits, with Enevold going 3-for-5 with three RBI. Dominick, Cooper Pease, Dylan Pease, and Poblocki each tallied two hits in the game.
  • Senior Jake Wiedower (St. Francis, Wis.) earned a no-decision on the mound, tossing seven innings and allowing two runs with five strikeouts.

  • After Lakeland scored two in the first, the Warriors took the lead with one in the second and two in the third. Junior Ethan Orcutt (East Dubuque, Ill.) drove in one in the second with a single to left, and RBI groundouts by Cooper Pease and freshman Foster Engelhardt (North Richland Hills, Texas) in the third put WLC in front 3-2.
  • The Muskies tied the game in the fourth, but Wisconsin Lutheran regained the lead with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. The first scored on a RBI walk by Cooper Pease and Engelhardt drove in the second with a RBI single with the third run scoring on a throwing error.
  • In the fifth, freshman Spencer Jens (New London, Wis.) drove in sophomore Danny Cain (Jackson, Wis.) with a single to right field. The Warriors tacked on two more in the sixth on a throwing error and a RBI single by Enevold.
  • Lakeland cut into the lead with four runs in the seventh, including a bases-clearing double to bring the score within two at 9-7. Cooper Pease responded with a two-run single in the bottom half of the inning, and WLC added two more in the eighth on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to six.
  • The Muskies scored twice in the ninth but Wisconsin Lutheran closed the door to win 13-9.
  • Dominick tallied three hits and scored three times to lead the Warriors' offense. WLC finished with 16 hits, with six players posting multiple hits. Cooper Pease drove in four runs and stole one base.
  • Sophomore Evan Theis (Richfield, Wis.) picked up his first win of the season, tossing 6.2 innings and allowing six earned runs. 

  • Hunter Frisk and Collin Schutz both recorded three hits in game one for the Muskies. Jack Banks and Lino Figueroa each tallied three RBI and Andrew Erbstoesser picked up the win in relief.
  • Kaylab Owings finished 3-for-4 with three RBI in game two. Peyton Domangue was charged with the loss after allowing six runs in four innings.
