Raabe's Two Homers Highlight Sweep Of Muskies

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – After winning 5-3 in extra innings in the first game, the Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team tallied three home runs to sweep Lakeland in a NACC doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Muskie Baseball Field. Sophomore Carter Raabe (Mukwonago, Wis.) went yard twice and had four RBI in the 15-7 game two blowout.

  • The Warriors scored in the top of the first on a two-out, RBI single by freshman Foster Engelhardt (North Richland Hills, Texas) following a double by junior Josh Enevold (Jackson, Wis.). Lakeland answered with one of its own in the bottom of the inning as two walks and two hit batters resulted in a run.
  • With two outs in the third, Wisconsin Lutheran collected back-to-back hits to take a 2-1 lead. Engelhardt doubled to center field and then scored on a single by senior Jayson Walczak-Zelem (Oak Creek, Wis.). The Muskies tied the game in the bottom of the third on a RBI bunt single.
  • In the sixth, WLC loaded the bases with two outs, but Lakeland escaped the jam on a lineout to center field.
  • Neither team could muster much offense in the following three innings before the Warriors scored once in the top of the 10th to take the lead. Enevold doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a throwing error by the second baseman.
  • In the bottom of the 10th, the Muskies loaded the bases with one out. One run scored on a single to left to tie the game, but the winning run was thrown out at the plate by Raabe. Lakeland stranded runners on second and third as WLC escaped the inning with a fielder's choice.
  • In the Warriors' half of the 11th, freshman Cooper Pease (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) delivered a two-out, two-run triple to right field to give the visitors a two-run lead. Freshman Hunter Martin (Whitewater, Wis.) retired the Muskies in order in the bottom of the inning to win the game for WLC.
  • Walczak-Zelem paced the Warriors' offense with four hits. Wisconsin Lutheran recorded 14 hits as a team, with eight players tallying at least one.
  • Martin improved to 2-1 on the season with the win in relief. He allowed one run on one hit across four innings. Freshman Andrew Muffler (Waukesha, Wis.) earned a no-decision in the start, throwing seven innings of two-run ball.

  • Wisconsin Lutheran scored twice in the first inning on a pair of RBI singles by Engelhardt and sophomore Evan Theis (Richfield, Wis.). The Muskies got a leadoff double and a RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to get back within one.
  • In the second, Raabe led off with a home run to left. Junior Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) then walked and advanced to third on a single by Cooper Pease. Dominick stole home for a second run, and Pease scored on a single by Enevold. The final run of the inning scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Engelhardt.
  • The Warriors tacked on one more in the third on a RBI double to left by Pease. Lakeland scored once in the third on an error to make the score 7-2.
  • WLC increased its lead to 12-2 with five runs in the fourth inning. Engelhardt connected on a leadoff home run to start the inning, and junior Ethan Orcutt (East Dubuque, Ill.) drove in the second run with a single to right center. With two runners on, Raabe launched his second home run of the game to left field to put the Warriors up 10.
  • A couple of hits and two errors helped Lakeland score three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to seven.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran scored once in the sixth and tacked on two more in the ninth to close out the sweep 15-7.
  • Enevold and Theis both finished with four hits as WLC tallied 19 hits for the game. Raabe led the team with four RBI on his two home runs, and Engelhardt drove in three runs with one home run.
  • On the mound, senior Joe Serbiak (Brookfield, Wis.) improved to 2-4 with a seven-strikeout performance across five innings. Senior Jacob Kopplin (Rowlett, Texas) picked up the four-inning save after allowing two unearned runs with six strikeouts.

  • The Muskies finished with five hits in game one, with two from Jack Banks. Tyler Penny was handed the loss after allowing the go-ahead runs in the 11th inning.
  • Nathan Hemmerling finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored in the second game for Lakeland. Alex Mikula was dealt the loss after allowing seven runs across 2.1 innings.
