Women's Soccer Blanks Inferno On Senior Night

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The offense tallied 32 shots and five goals as the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team shutout Alverno 5-0 on Senior Night at Warriors Soccer Field on Saturday. It was the 10th consecutive Warriors victory over the Inferno, including their sixth straight shutout.

  • The Warriors struck first at the 13th-minute mark, as junior Miriam Carreno (San Antonio, Texas) found herself alone in a one-on-one against the goalkeeper following a pass from freshman Signe Kind (Fort Atkinson, Wis.). Carreno sent the ball past the outstretched arms of the keeper for her first goal of the season.
  • In the 25th minute, WLC increased its lead to 2-0 as junior Maggie Stebbins (Beaver Dam, Wis.) collected the ball following a ricochet off the left goalpost and fired it to lower left corner.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran added one more before halftime from freshman Carol Bedolla (Joliet, Ill.). Bedolla received a pass from Carreno and beat the keeper with her left foot to the corner for her first career goal.
  • The Warriors' lead increased to 5-0 with a pair of goals just five minutes apart in the second half. Sophomore Katie Wasiak (Muskego, Wis.) scored her third goal of the season at the 52nd-minute mark after a deflection in the box, and senior Gabriella Metten (Greenville, Wis.) found the back of the net in the 57th minute to cap the scoring for WLC.

  • Wisconsin Lutheran finished with 32 shots, including 16 shots on goal. Wasiak recorded nine total shots with four on goal, while Stebbins also had a team-high four shots on target. Six different players tallied a shot on goal in the game.
  • Freshman Lauren Butler (West Allis, Wis.) recorded the shutout in goal for her second win of the season. WLC's defense held strong, allowing just one shot in the game.
  • The Warriors totaled 11 corner kicks, compared to just one for the Inferno.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran honored its three seniors Metten, Hannah Burden (Mount Pleasant, Wis.), and Lizzy Bauer (Kewaskum, Wis.) during a pregame ceremony.

  • Rikki Nelson tallied the lone shot for the Inferno. Kenzie Bermudez was handed the loss in goal after allowing three goals in the first half. She recorded six saves in 45 minutes in goal.
