Warriors Walk-Off Defending NACC Champs

Box Score

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to knock off nine-time NACC champion Concordia Chicago 7-6 in game one of a seven-inning doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Neumann Family Baseball Field. It was the Warriors' first win over the Cougars since the 2013 season. Game two was suspended due to weather in the first inning.

  • Final Score: Wisconsin Lutheran 7, Concordia Chicago 6
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (5-12), Concordia Chicago (6-8)
  • Location: Neumann Family Baseball Field, Wauwatosa, Wis.

  • The Warriors took an early 2-0 lead right away in the first inning when freshman Foster Engelhardt (North Richland Hills, Texas) doubled to right center scoring junior Josh Enevold (Jackson, Wis.) and freshman Cooper Pease (Fort Atkinson, Wis.). Both players singled to start the inning.
  • WLC senior starter Jacob Kopplin (Rowlett, Texas) cruised through the first four innings, allowing just four Cougars baserunners to reach as the hosts maintained its 2-0 lead.
  • CUC plated four runs on three hits in the fifth inning, including a two-RBI single, sac fly, and wild pitch to jump in front. Wisconsin Lutheran escaped further damage by stranding the bases loaded as the inning ended.
  • The Green and White put together three straight two-out hits in the fifth inning, capped off by a RBI single from junior Nick Poblocki (Bartlett, Ill.) that scored Cooper Pease to make it a one-run game.
  • The Warriors evened the score at 4-4 in the seventh on a Poblocki double to right center that plated sophomore Dylan Pease (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) from third on an overthrow to the plate.
  • Concordia Chicago jumped back ahead in the eighth with two unearned runs off an overthrow on a steal attempt and passed ball.
  • WLC refused to go away in its last at-bat, using a single, three walks, three wild pitches, and a fielder's choice to walk-off CUC. Sophomore Danny Cain (Jackson, Wis.) legged out a fielder's choice to score Dylan Pease from third for the winning run with two outs.
  • Enevold, Cooper Pease, Engelhardt, and Poblocki finished with two hits each for Wisconsin Lutheran, with Enevold, Cooper Pease, and Dylan Pease all scoring twice.
  • Sophomore Glavine Matthes (Appleton, Wis.) picked up his first career win after tossing the final two innings of relief.

  • Bryce Vincent had two hits and two RBI and Niles Gall had two hits and two runs for the Cougars, who matched the Warriors with 10 hits in the game. Wyatt McLaughlin allowed three runs in a third of an inning to suffer the loss.

  • The Warriors travel to MSOE (3-7) on Saturday for their conference-opening doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Raiders Stadium. Live stats links will be available for both games at WLCSports.com.
