Warriors Bounce Blue Angels In Season Opener

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team opened its 2021 season on Wednesday afternoon with an impressive 9-0 win over Mount Mary at MMU Soccer Field. Freshman Ella Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored four goals in her collegiate debut, as the Warriors netted their most goals in a match since October 5, 2019 when they tallied 10. The win marked WLC's ninth straight over MMU.

  • Miller netted the first two Warriors career goals in the 9th and 14th minutes for an early 2-0 lead.
  • Junior Katie Wasiak (Muskego, Wis.) made it a three-goal margin in the 17th with her first score of the season.
  • Freshman Teyah Palmer (Washington, Ill.) was credited with consecutive goals in the 21st and 33rd for a commanding 6-0 advantage. Miller, sophomore Lily Phelps (Sunman, Ind.), and junior Elena Velasquez (Milwaukee, Wis.) found the back of the net before the first half came to a conclusion with the score reading 8-0.
  • Miller recorded the only goal of the second half in the 48th on an assist from Palmer as the final score read 9-0.
  • WLC blanked Mount Mary in the shot count, 50-0, and was led by junior Desareih Juarez's (Waukegan, Ill.) seven shots. Palmer and Velasquez added six each.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran's 50 shot attempts are tied for the fourth-highest on record.
  • Palmer and senior Miriam Carreno (San Antonio, Texas) were credited with assists in the win.
  • Sophomore Sierra Kannas (Watertown, S.D.) and freshman Brandee Dewar (Flint, Mich.) combined for the shutout in net, with Kannas earning her first win.
  • The four scores from Miller tie for the second-most on record in a game in program history.
