Women's Volleyball Opens Season In St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team opened its 2021 season on Friday at the Kathryne Pals Legacy Invitational hosted by the University of Northwestern. The Warriors fell to Pacific (Ore.) and UW-Stevens Point by scores of 3-0.

  • The Warriors dropped their opening match of the season to the Boxers in three sets by scores of 28-26, 25-21, and 25-21. WLC fell in three sets despite a total of 25 ties and 10 lead changes.
  • Junior Jenna Charron (Appleton, Wis.) and senior Carly Heuer (Germantown, Wis.) led Wisconsin Lutheran with eight and seven kills, respectively. Freshman Karah Valerio (Pewaukee, Wis.) posted 14 assists in her collegiate debut.
  • Junior Ally Goba (Mukwonago, Wis.) collected 12 digs, while Heuer and freshman Amanda Viel (Burlington, Wis.) added seven digs apiece.
  • The Green and White were hampered with 14 service errors and hit .097 for the match.
  • The Pointers posted a three-set win over the Warriors by scores of 25-11, 25-14, and 25-15 in the nightcap.
  • Charron collected 11 kills to lead the team for the second straight match. Valerio registered her first career double-double of 13 assists and 11 digs. Goba finished with a team-high 16 digs.
  • WLC wrapped up the match hitting .017, while UWSP posted a .306 hitting percentage. Ashley Kopp paced the Pointers with a double-double of 12 kills and 13 digs. 

  • The Warriors play two more matches tomorrow at the Kathryne Pals Legacy Invitational, facing Bethel (2-1) at 11 a.m. and host and 20th-ranked Northwestern (2-1) at 3 p.m. Live coverage links for both contests will be available at WLCSports.com.
